My name is Harry Meertens. After studying Chemical Engineering, I started working at DSM Nederland BV at the end of 1987. Since then, I have worked at various plants at the Chemelot site in Geleen and fulfilled various roles.
As of July 2014, I am working as Manager Maintenance & Engineering at the Vynova PVC factory in Geleen. A nice feature and a nice challenge. So, in the end, I have been working here for a while now.
What is important in my work, besides of course the technical knowledge, is to be able to listen carefully to people, to take decisions and to take your responsibility. The team of 23 employees I work with varies in age between the early thirties and early sixties. This mainly means that you give situational guidance and respond to the needs of the people who belong to their age.
A beautiful and very varied job. Fully engaged in the dynamics and no day is the same. That makes the work very nice. Also the international aspect is fascinating and consult with colleagues from the Vynova group with whom you jointly participate in projects.
In one of my previous functions, we managed to build a new factory on the site. A huge investment, but very nice when you get to work on this project and people trust you and give you the responsibility for it.
At Chemelot, we are looking for employees at all educational levels and of all ages. No or little experience to real champs in the profession. So do you have a technical education or background and are you ready for something else? Immerse yourself in the companies that are present here and the possibilities that are available, also within Vynova. If you are honest with yourself, your environment and are not afraid to take responsibility, then you certainly have a good chance. Motivation, pleasure in life and optimism give you more an indication of how you work than just education and age. And it is the sum of it all that matters.
